How can I find out about my test day?
The easiest way is to be in contact with your chosen preparation centre.
Is it possible to change my test date?
To change your test date, contact your preparation centre with your name, IELTS reference number, and new preferred date and they will check for you if the change is possible under IELTS rules.
How do I cancel my IELTS test?
You can cancel your test up to 5 weeks before the date and pay a €40 fee.
If I don’t need the test after paying, can I get my money back?
No. Date changes or refunds are only given with a medical reason.
How do I ask for special needs during my test?
You need to contact your preparation centre 6 weeks before your test with relevant medical proof.
Can I sign up for several online IELTS tests?
With good preparation you should not need that. However, you can pay the exam fee for each test within two days of signing up.
I didn’t get a confirmation email after registering. Should I worry?
No. Confirmation emails can take up to 3 days, especially after weekends.
What if I can’t upload my ID during registration?
For paper tests, try a .jpeg format under 300x300 pixels. If that fails, email a scan of your ID to your preparation centre. Do the same for computer based tests.
What are the benefits of taking IELTS on a computer?
Computer-based IELTS offers more flexible test dates and quicker results that are available online in 3-5 days.
Is there a difference in content between paper and computer IELTS?
No, both formats cover the same skills and have similar difficulty and scoring. Please note that the computer version doesn't have the 10-minute time allowance to transfer your answers from your question booklet to your answer sheet. Speaking tests are in-person for both versions.
Should I choose paper or computer IELTS?
It depends on your personal preference. Some prefer paper, others are more comfortable with computers. Both types are equally valid.
What kind of keyboards are used for the computer test?
The most commonly used is the QWERTY keyboard.
When will I receive my results?
Computer test results are online in 3-5 days, paper test results in 13 days. Certificates for computer tests are emailed, while those for paper tests are mailed.
How can I send extra certificates to my university or school?
Log into your test-taker portal, select your test date, and add the university or school details under 'Adding Organizations'.
Can I retake only part of the test?
No, you must retake the whole test if unsatisfied with a section.
Can I see feedback on my results?
IELTS rules don't allow feedback viewing. This is mentioned in the terms and conditions agreed when registering for the test.
Is the computer test harder than the paper test?
No, they are the same in content, scoring, and difficulty.
